Once i was lambasted by my father for scoring very low in maths, a
normal scenario in any indian family where marks are probably the most
beautiful gift a child can give to his parents. Neverthless as i grew up
and devloped an ability to analyse why I scored low, I figured out that
I relyed on my friends to save me through the hard problems with out
strengthning my base.
Today as i see all the fdi news making rounds I once again ponder over
the fact, is our motherland facing the same problem. We brought in fdi
in 1991 and our economy just got bigger. But did it become brigther, I
doubt so. When ever we have problem we want somebody else to solve that
for us.This is good, as many a time we are not sure about the solution
or ours may not be the best one, but to some extent. I have a friend who
once revealed that he took paper chits into exam and used them in time
of need. i was taken aback given the fact he was a brilliant brain so i
asked why u need one. he said me that its okay to see 1 line of
derivation in the exam than to loose 10 marks as that 1 line can reduce
ur marks, but in no way a correct unassisted presentation shows ur real
talent, muggers can do better.
Taking this into context I believe India should follow my friend footsteps in terms of economy also. there is no harm in fdi but at the same time we should be aware that this should be that 1 line which can lift our economy and we should not rely on it always as it corrupts our core by relying on readymade solutions and ceases our vision of introspection. We think retail FDI or aviation fdi will solve the problem but would never question why future retail or kingfisher airlines couldnt be efficient.
I believe one should not rely on help always as it makes you spineless and take away our ability to think.
